Creativactive - Variations on a theme

My Variation Lyrics (Creativeactive)
In ages past
how this was so
A magic gift
and a talent born
creatively, something NEW

I'm making up, making new, then shaping up something new to us
This is it the creative mind, whoa

Chorus:
I'm waking, I feel it in my mind
(Enough) to make my gears go wind
Vary to a new knob, to a new knob
Vary to a new knob, to a new knob
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm creativeactive, creativeactive
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm creativeactive, creativeactive

I'm making up, making new,
then shaping up something new to us
This is it the creative mind, whoa

All people can, learn and develop
From experience and pre-exisiting ideas

I'm waking up, I'm waking up, I'm waking up
I feel it in my mind
(Enough) to make my gears go wind
Vary to a new knob, to a new knob
Vary to a new knob, to a new knob
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm creativeactive, creativeactive
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm creativeactive, creativeactive

Original Lyrics (Radioactive)
I'm waking up
 to ash and dust
I wipe my brow
and I sweat my rust
I'm breathing in, the chemicals

I'm breaking in, shaping up, then checking out on the prison bus
This is it the apocalypse, whoa

Chorus:
I'm waking, I feel in it my bones
(Enough) to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

I'm breaking in, shaping up
Then checking out on the prison bus
This is it the apocalypse, whoa

Chorus:
I'm waking up, I feel it in my bone
(Enough) to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

All systems go, sun hasn't died
Deep in my bones straight from inside

I'm waking up, I'm waking up, I'm waking up
I feel it in my bones
(Enough) to make my systems blow
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Welcome to the new age, to the new age
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive
Whoa oh oh oh oh oh, I'm radioactive, radioactive

Reflection
I found this assignment a great process to go through to engage with the material. I think it would be a great exercise for my students to deeply think about the material. I found myself forced to deeply think about the material to create an effective song. Trying to find good variations to the lyrics in the original song had me scouring the target content for suitable material to transfer to the song.

In the past I have often made comments about other people being creative persons – not realizing that I was implying that they were born with it or naturally possessed those abilities. Something very helpful I learned from the reading is that creativity can be learned and developed – via rich experiences that broaden personal connections and provide more “knobs” that students will be able to use in future creative endeavors.
